"Growing up in the capital of the Philippines before migrating to the US made me realize the importance of transportation and how it is molded by the culture and the environment. Although there are multiple modes of transportation available, Jeepneys are the undisputed king of the road in the Philippines, comparable to the subways we have here in New York City. I chose this photo because Jeepneys have become a cultural symbol of Filipino creativity and resourcefulness. Even with all the traffic congestion, especially in Muñoz or EDSA (where I used to live), a lot of Pinoys still prefer riding Jeepneys than MRT and LRT (no need to worry about the thick aroma of pawis and putok in a crowded train). Jeepneys for the culture! PARA PO!"
